Dell Inspiron 8200 system crash after inserting a second RAM chip?

System crashes when inserting a memory chip to the second unused slot. It didn’t matter to the size (256 or 512MB) of the memory chip or its manufacturer (Kingston, Crucial, Samsung, etc.) that was installed. Positioning the placement of the new chip to whichever available unused slot didn’t help either. NOTE: both slots are fully functioning as most of the time the second chip is accepted as noted by checking in System Properties even after rebooting. The crashes have occured inconsistently from immediate to 30 minutes to a few hours after computer usage. I hope someone can provide help to resolve this issue so that I can have the availability of more RAM memory usage. Thanks!
Justin, I used about five different chips (256-512MB range) indivually – each revealing no issues while used at least a day of usage with each – as well as in various combinations later on. I should have made sure to have said earlier that the crashes happened ONLY when I had two memory modules installed and never when only one was installed.

Just because a stick of ram is working doesn’t mean it isn’t defective. Put just the new stick in the computer, and run a test just as prime95 (preferably for a few hours or overnight). That will tell you whether there are any errors with the RAM. If you like, you can also do this with the other stick in place. It is advisable for you to do this one stick at a time so you can tell which (if any) is the offending piece.
