My friend crashed my car on private property and now I’m having to pay to the other cars insurance company. Do I have to pay? What are the laws in the state of California? I understand that because the car is under my name I am required to have insurance which I do but did not have other motorists on it besides myself.

For any damages caused by that car whether you are responsible for any damages caused by your car and you are responsible for any damages caused by that car whether you were driving or not it was your friend drive it was on private property if other drivers arent covered by that car.
You learned a very difficult lesson the hard way ~ to NEVER allow another person to drive your car. Some insurance policies (like yours) restrict who is covered.
Although you don’t state if anyone was injured, your restitution could have been much worse.
Also note that your friends’ driving record may carry the crash on it. Accidents reported to insurance companies usually show up on the drviers’ record.
