Why does fight-or-flight hurt us in modern society?

Like when people were apes, fight-or-flight was beneficial. When confronted with a saber toothed tiger, for example, it makes sense to beat the crap out of it or try to escape. Yet, it wouldn’t work with the perceived threat of an irate boss, rising property taxes, crashed computer, idiot coworkers, etc. You get the idea. Why? and What are the alternatives in those situations?

It doesn’t. We have been fed a bowl of porridge for our inheritance, and as such the warrior concept has been “bred” out or discouraged. We think of athletes as our warriors, because we direct their energy into that arena (pun intended). But ultimately, as we see the decay of Western Culture, which is rapidly accelerating, the fight or flight will ultimately aid the survival of those who escape this breakdown. Some may be able to flee to the hinterlands, others will have the organization to stand, fight and most likely oppress those who choose to do neither.
